In the small California town of Shadow Springs, the haunted house is a fun local legend for most, but for seventeen-year-old Bailey Thompson, the evil inside that house is quite real. She blames her brother's suicide on his obsession with the house's history of tragic death and mayhem, and she has worked tirelessly to try to solve the mystery no one else seems to believe exists.

When a family finally moves into the abandoned Gallows House, she is drawn to one of its new residents, the gorgeous, lanky teenage boy, Hunter Callahan. She capitalizes on her crush as a way to get inside the house and seek out answers. What she learns threatens to bring the fragile happiness she’s found crashing down around her. As Bailey and Hunter work to uncover the secrets of the house, they try to put an end to a century-long string of murders while keeping themselves alive to share in their newfound love.
