Meet Chris Keeslar – Editor-in-Chief
Christopher Keeslar was graduated from the creative writing program of New York University and left with an eye on publishing. Initially intending to make a name for himself as an author, he took work as an editorial assistant to support that ambition and soon found himself as handy with a pencil as with a word processor—or maybe handier. Since accepting an editorial role, he’s won both national and local awards for his work, and is widely respected as an industry professional. Chris enjoys a stellar reputation in the Romance industry, where authors and agents alike applaud him for his integrity, enthusiasm and commitment to producing great stories. He takes time to grow and groom authors rather than simply churn out product.
His first job with Dorchester Publishing lasted more than sixteen years. Chris was doing actual developmental editing soon after he began his employment and within 18 months he had taken a role in acquisitions. He soon became part of a core editorial team, as well as an unofficial contract guru, and the next fourteen years were devoted to growing the house and his own author list.
Surprisingly, Chris found Romance fiction to his taste. Genre fiction–wise, he’d grown up reading primarily fantasy, swords & sorcery type books, but discovered that the leap to Romance was not as disorienting as one might suspect; both genres steered toward overall happy endings and fantasy fulfillment.
His preferences skewed toward fantasy and science fiction–style Romances, “paranormals” as it were, and toward medieval historicals, though he has edited a much broader range of titles throughout his career. Readers everywhere echoed his tastes, vampire fiction becoming particularly dominant in recent years.
In 2004, Chris was chosen to receive RWA PASIC’s 2004 national award for best editor. This was followed several years later by the RWA New York chapter’s local award.
The last few years have seen changes in the industry, but readers have not diminished their taste for quality Romance fiction. In fact, Romance is bigger now than ever. An above-average technological ability for a publishing person has helped Chris persevere in a shifting environment, making him the perfect choice for Boroughs Publishing Group, where he can put his talents to work in acquisitions and editorial development as the company’s Editor-in-Chief.
Please join us in welcoming Chris to the Boroughs’ community.

Welcome and congrats! I loved the Shomi line and was heartbroken when it dissolved. Can't wait to see what's in store!
Thank you, Dawn. We're looking forward to what's on the horizon, too. Stay tuned!
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Kessler at the Orlando RWA conference. I'm glad to see he's still interested in westerns. I hope he has as long a run here as he did at Dorchester.
From your mouth, Nancy... We're excited about the possibilities, too. Thanks for the kind words.
Congrats, Chris! I wish you and Boroughs Publishing much success.
Thank you, Faye. We appreciate the kind words.
Rock on, Chris! Kick ass, take names, and all that bs. Mostly though, best of luck on the new gig. They're lucky to have you. If I ever do write a romance, it'll be in your inbox. :)
Agreed, J.N., we are fortunate that he's our new Editor-in-Chief.
I am thrilled to see Chris Kessler has landed! His stellar reputation precedes him. All the best to Boroughs Publishing.
Joelle Walker
Thank you, Joelle. We appreciate your good wishes.
Glad to see you back, Chris! I've never met you but wanted to. Always heard great things and I'm sorry Dorchester turned out the way it did (I have fond memories of the 1990s futuristics so they have always had a warm place in my heart). Hope we'll get a chance to see you at conferences again. All the best to you and Boroughs Publishing Group!
Thank you, Cassiel. We have a fond place in our heart for all kinds of Romance stories. We appreciate the kind words.
Hey, I just wanted to log in and say thanks for the kind words posted here. I'm looking forward to a long and prosperous relationship with Boroughs, and I can't wait to build a line full of exciting new romances. And that's something I can't do it without you!
Chris,
Just read about you and was very impressed! I am looking forward to working with you on my first book.
We're looking forward to your first book, too. You're in great hands with Chris!
Congratulations to Chris and to Boroughs!!! The future looks bright!

Lisa, thank you for you well-wishes. We are excited about the future and look forward to publishing great Romance fiction.
Go, Chris! Many happy editing hours to you at Boroughs. Hope we meet again.
Linda
Thanks, Linda.
I'm looking forward to those many hours--and to us meeting again! Can't wait to hear what you're working on these days. Drop me a line whenever.
Chris
I have a question about submitting to your Romantic Suspense/Thrillers category. Is there a way to query (just a couple paragraphs) to see if my book is within your parameters? Or perhaps you'd be willing to expound for a wider audience here?
I wish Boroughs the best, and look forward to learning more about your thrillers.
Lynnette
Lynnette, many thanks for the well-wishes and the question. We love Romantic Suspense/Thrillers and welcome submissions. The terms/guidelines for submissions are delineated when you click Submit on the masthead above. On the Submissions page you'll find our on-line submission tool, which is designed to streamline the process. Specifically, a Romantic Suspense/Thriller must have the H/H's Romance as the central thread of the story. If your characters are chasing evil throughout the city, or the galaxy for that matter, we're jazzed to have action and adventure advancing the plot. Also, remember that there has to be a HEA or the promise of a happy ending for all our books. If you or other authors have questions, please use the website's Contact Us link and we'll be happy to respond to you individually. As well, See Jane Publish interviewed us a few days ago. You might find the interview provides more insight in Boroughs Publishing Group. Here's the link:http://seejanepublish.wordpress.com/2012/03/21/industry-interview-boroug...
