E-Musements

A short monthly piece to show what's happening in the editor-in-chief's brain...and in his office. Besides reading. Lots of reading.

No Turkey

Chris KeeslarThis month I actually just want to say thanks to everyone who’s reading this.

As of November 15th, I’ve been in this business for a full twenty years. It hasn’t all been easy. Things have changed so much since I began, with the gradual shrinking of the power of traditional publishing and the rise of the individual writer with e-pub, and yet, for me, one thing remains the same: I’m grateful to do what I do.

I began as a wide-eyed kid hoping to pay the bills while writing the great American novel and instead found that I prefer helping others refine their literary visions—and I’m still doing it after all this time. I’ve met some of my very best friends (and my wife and the mother of my child) through my work in this field, learned from some of the very finest people, and best of all I’ve watched some extremely talented artists rise from unknowns to popular success and critical acclaim. The whole ride has been crazy and beautiful, dark and then light, and this genre’s successful authors and would-be authors alike are those to whom I owe everything.

So, thank you. May you too find what you’re looking for this holiday season…and may you remember the gifts with which you’ve been blessed.
